Bed bugs are no new occurrence. They’ve been infesting properties and seeking blood meals since 340 BC. It used to be that DDT and other potent pesticides helped eradicate them completely. However, use of such pesticides has now been outlawed and bed bugs have made quite a return. This is also due, in part, to an increase in air travel.
Because these pests do not care about the cleanliness of any one location and instead are just seeking a place to feed, around one in five people has experienced a bed bug infestation or know someone who has. These pests are excellent at hiding, and because they’re small they can fit in dark, hard to reach crevices in your home or business. Our body heat, exhalation, and more alert them that a blood meal is nearby, and so they come out when it is dark to feast.
